What is an adult...

Authors note: In class we had this assignment but I really liked it because it allowed me to really think about something that I normally don't think about. I really focused in on the concept "age is just a number" because I had a very different idea on what an adult was. I also decided to go to m-w.com and look up adult. This is what I found, adult : fully developed and mature : grown-up. This really made me think...

Being an adult has nothing to do with what age you are. The old saying “age is just a number” is beyond true. There are some people who grow up have a kid and are forced to be adults at a very young age. It doesn’t necessarily mean that’s right, but it does mean that they have to mature and grow up a lot faster than others. A person’s life experiences it what makes the decision if they are an adult or not.
Some kids grow up with rich parents and never have to work. They get everything handed to them and don’t have to ever ‘want’ because they get everything. Well, one day those kids won’t live with their parents anymore and will have to find a job to make their own money and suddenly reality will hit them. In my opinion, those are the kind of kids that will take longer to become adults because they are being babied all the way through high school.
Then, there are the kids that get jobs at the age of 16 and work so hard just to live the average life. They become adults faster because they have already been working and know what it’s like to want things that you can’t have. I believe that these kids will become more successful in the long run because they will have all the experience that they need at a young age.
Age is literally just a number and I can’t even imagine how many 18 year olds there are that shouldn’t be treated as ‘adults’. Many highschoolers should be treated as adults because we really have been through a lot, even though not everyone knows that.

Two In One

Authors note: I know I've been behind on my blogging, but my computer hasn't been working so I've been writing my better posts, I'll try to post them as soon as possible, and this is just a post about how Jekyll and Hyde are the same person.

For the small amount of time we have been reading Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Zoe and I have been saying the same thing. Constantly we were convinced that they were the same person, and after reading even further, we were correct. Hyde represents the evil within us. Often the connection to the new movie "The Devil Inside" was made. While Jekyll represents what is what is good. Their clashing personalities don't come out at the same time. Jekyll is during the day while Hyde comes out in the darker hours of the night. I connected their to personalities to coming "in and out" of their body. Which reminded our group of the most common motif - a door. Doors can open to let things in, and close to let things out. Just like Jekyll and Hyde's personalities are coming in and out of their body.

Hyde

Authors note: I wrote a poem about how Hyde can't really be described. I got the inspiration from this at the bottom of page 43. Mr. Enfield was explaining how you really just can't describe Hyde. I thought that this was unique and kind of cool because it let me paint the picture in my head. So, I wrote a poem trying to mimic the use of D's that the author did.

There are no words to describe
Evil and darkness that are inside
It was down-right clear no one wants to see
His darkness that lied underneath
The face was said to be deformed
His dark and creepy heart was never warmed
He looked like a demon no one had ever seen
His personality was displeasing and mean
Don’t even begin to think anyone will know
The way his disgusting thoughts will flow
Sometimes words just can’t describe
The disgusting devil that is inside

Quote I based this off of: "He is not easy to describe. There is something wrong with his apperance; something down-right detetsable. I never saw a man I so disliked, and yet I scare know why. he must be deformed somewhere; he gives a strong feeling of deformity although I couldn't specify the point..."
